About Oaklands Nursing Home
Oaklands Nursing Home in Chester provides nursing care for adults, with qualified nurses on duty at all times. We care for older people and younger adults, including people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Nursing here means consistent attention to the things that keep somebody comfortable and well: medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain. We work with GPs, district nurses and specialists early rather than waiting for a problem to become urgent, and we talk things over with the person and their family instead of managing them quietly in the background. For people with a physical disability, independence often turns on practicalities. The right equipment, a room arranged so that things are within reach, and help given at the point it is needed rather than a few minutes before. We would rather somebody did something slowly for themselves than have it done for them. Where there is sensory loss we attend to lighting, contrast, clear signs and hearing aids that have actually been checked. Around all of that, ordinary life carries on. People keep their own hours and their own belongings, choose where to spend the day and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
