About St Anne's Community Services - Heatherstones
We are a nursing home at Heatherstones in Halifax, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults whose needs include nursing care. We also offer respite stays. Having registered nurses as part of the team matters here for a particular reason. People with learning disabilities often have health needs that go unnoticed or get attributed to their disability rather than investigated, and the consequences of that are well documented and serious. Somebody here is watching for the physical health problem behind a change in behaviour rather than simply managing the behaviour. Beyond that, this is somebody's home. People arrange their own rooms, have a say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that here than have a family find it elsewhere and wonder why we said nothing. We accept what was identified and we are working through it, and we will not claim in a paragraph that it is all behind us. Anybody considering us should visit without an appointment, speak to relatives and to the people who live here, and press us for specifics about what has changed.
