About Great Horwood
We are a nursing home at Great Horwood near Milton Keynes, and we also provide care in people's own homes. We support older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are part of what we do. Offering both a home and visiting care means we can sometimes keep somebody in their own house for longer, and it means that if a move does become necessary it is to a place and a team they already know rather than to strangers. Having nurses available means complex health needs are met rather than becoming a reason to move somebody on. The clinical side is only part of a day though, and the rest is ordinary life: food worth eating, getting outside, prompt help and privacy. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what a person can still manage themselves rather than what is fastest for us, because independence given up for convenience is rarely handed back. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly than write around the gap. Come and see us unannounced, and ask us whatever you want to ask.
