About Oaklands
Oaklands is a nursing home in Hove, and we care for older people whose health needs go beyond residential care, for people with physical disabilities and for people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available as well. Having registered nurses on duty at every hour is the foundation of what we do. Medication is managed carefully, wound care, catheter care and long standing conditions are dealt with on site rather than through a run of appointments elsewhere, and a change in a resident's health tends to be noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we press on a resident's behalf when something is slow in coming. Nursing is only half of what a home should be, and we try hard not to let clinical routine crowd out ordinary life. Residents choose when to get up, where to sit, what they would like to eat and whether they want company or quiet. Rooms are people's own space, filled with their own things, and visitors come when it suits them. Dementia care is a significant part of our work. Knowing what somebody did for a living and how they took their tea is genuinely practical information once words become unreliable, and families hold it. For residents living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication matters most. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to visit.
