About Highcliffe Nursing Home
We are a nursing home in Christchurch, caring for people whose needs require qualified nursing alongside help with daily living. We support older people and younger adults, and a good deal of our work is with people living with dementia. Having registered nurses on duty means that medication, pain, wounds, continence and the difficulties people have with eating and drinking can be managed properly and without waiting. It also means changes get noticed early, which is often what keeps somebody out of hospital. Alongside that, we try to hold on to the ordinary things: people choosing when to get up, what to wear, what they would like to eat and who they want beside them. Nursing care for someone living with dementia asks for patience above all. We spend time learning about a person's life, habits and the things that comfort or unsettle them, because that knowledge is worth more than any procedure when somebody is frightened or cannot place where they are. We work closely with general practitioners, community teams and hospital staff, and we keep families informed as a matter of routine. Where someone is nearing the end of life, our concern is comfort, dignity and the presence of those they love. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and see us and ask whatever you need to.
