About Service to the Aged
We are Service to the Aged, a nursing home in Barnet, north London. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, and we take respite stays as well as permanent places. Having qualified nurses here at every hour is what a nursing home is for. A change in somebody's health is noticed by people who know them and acted on straight away. A person does not have to move when their condition becomes more complicated, at exactly the point when a move is hardest. And care at the end of life can be given here, with familiar faces around, when that is what somebody and their family want. Dementia care takes up a large share of our attention. We try to understand the person rather than the diagnosis, which usually means learning somebody's history, their routines and what settles or unsettles them, and shaping the day around that instead of expecting them to fit our timetable. Families often tell us more in the first fortnight than any assessment captures, so we ask early and keep asking. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
