About Helping Hands
Helping Hands Salisbury provides home care to adults in Salisbury and the surrounding part of Wiltshire. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, and people with physical disabilities. Most people come to us for a straightforward reason. They want to stay in their own home, and a few practical difficulties are making that hard. So those are what we deal with: help with washing and dressing, medicines taken as they should be, meals cooked and actually eaten, the housework and shopping kept under control, and a reliable way of getting out to appointments and to see people. We arrange visits around the person's day rather than ours, and we would rather agree a pattern we can genuinely keep than an ambitious one that falls apart in the first difficult week. We keep the group of care workers around each person small, because meeting an unfamiliar face at the door unsettles anybody and particularly somebody living with dementia. Where somebody has a physical disability, we agree together how they want to be helped and how much time they actually need. We agree the support with the person and, where they want it, with their family, and we look at the plan again whenever circumstances change rather than leaving it as first written.
