About Fairfield Farm College

Fairfield Farm College supports young adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss, both on our site at Dilton Marsh in Wiltshire and in people's own homes. Our whole purpose is to widen what is possible rather than to look after people, and everything we do follows from that. The first conversation is about somebody's life and what they want from it, not about their difficulties. From there we work on the practical foundations of an independent adult life: cooking, handling money, travelling, getting to appointments, holding down work or a course, keeping in touch with people who matter. Progress in this work can be slow and it can go backwards, and neither of those is a failure. What matters is that the opportunity is genuinely available and nobody is pushed. We would rather somebody take twenty minutes over a task they can learn than have us do it in five. Understanding how each person communicates is central, especially where speech is not the main route or where sight or hearing loss makes it harder. We learn each person's way, write it down so that everybody responds identically, and keep checking we have understood. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
