About Health Care Response

We work with people living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic people and people with physical disabilities. Home care is a practical craft rather than a philosophy, and we treat it as one. It is knowing the household as well as the person: which door sticks, where the medication lives, whether she wants the radio on, whether he needs you in front of him to follow what you are saying. Care planned in an office and delivered to a script misses all of that, and missing it is what makes a visit feel impersonal even when every task is completed. So we begin at home, with a conversation, and write the plan from what we learn. We keep the same small team with each person, because familiarity does more for somebody with dementia, a learning disability or a sensory difficulty than any technique we could name. Anyone new is introduced alongside a colleague the person already knows. Where somebody finds noise, crowds or unpredictability difficult, we adapt what we do and prepare properly for changes rather than springing them on people. The Care Quality Commission has not yet issued us an overall rating. Until then, we are happy to be judged on the detail we go into.
