Help with washing and dressing, medication given properly and on time, meals cooked, the house kept in order, shopping done and support to get out to appointments or simply into the day. Most of the people we visit are older, and many are living with dementia. We put our effort into consistency there, keeping the same carers going to the same households, because a familiar person can tell straight away how someone is and adapt without making a fuss. We also support adults living with a physical disability, thinking practically about equipment, mobility and the layout of a home, since those details usually decide how much someone can manage for themselves. Younger adults are part of our work too, and their support has to sit alongside work, study and friends rather than take the place of them. We plan travel into our rotas so that getting to someone never comes out of their visit, and we stay in touch with families rather than waiting for a review date to tell them something has changed.
