Nearly everyone who contacts us wants to carry on living where they are. Our job is to make that practical rather than to take over. Depending on what is needed, that might be a single morning call to help someone wash, dress and get the day going, several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or a longer sit so a family carer can have a few hours to themselves. The first conversation is where the work really starts. We want to know how the day usually runs, what has become hard, and what the person can still do perfectly well and would rather we left to them. Support planned that way feels like help rather than interference. Where sight or hearing is reduced, we adapt how we communicate and keep things where the person expects to find them. Where somebody has a physical disability we think properly about equipment and about not helping more than is wanted.
