About Autism West Midlands
We support autistic people and adults with a learning disability in their own homes across Solihull and the surrounding parts of Birmingham. Most of the people we work with are younger adults, and our job is to provide the support that makes an independent life workable rather than to take that life over. Support looks different for everybody. For one person it might be help with the parts of the week that are hardest to manage alone, appointments, forms, shopping, keeping a tenancy running. For another it might be practical help with personal care and daily routines. For somebody else it might be mostly about getting out, doing things they want to do and having somebody alongside who understands why a change of plan is not a small matter. We take the time to understand how a person communicates, what they need in their environment, what tips a manageable day into an unmanageable one and what helps when that happens. We agree how we work with the person themselves wherever possible, and with families and other professionals where that is what somebody wants. Predictability matters here, so we are careful about who visits and about giving notice when anything has to change. If you are looking for support at home in this area, for yourself, a family member or somebody you work with, please get in touch and we will talk it through honestly.
