About Thera South Midlands
Thera South Midlands is a home care agency based in Oxford, supporting people in their own homes across Oxfordshire and the surrounding area. We work with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people who have a physical disability and with older people. We begin from the assumption that the people we support are in charge of their own lives. Support exists to make a chosen life workable rather than to manage somebody tidily. So the first conversation is about what a person wants their week to look like, and only then about what help is needed to get there. For many of the people we support that means a tenancy of their own, control over their own money and food, and the ordinary freedoms any adult expects. Behind that sits practical help: personal care, cooking, health appointments, travel, and dealing with the officialdom that can defeat anybody. Where someone has a physical disability we take real care over how we assist with moving, because the correct approach is specific to the individual. Communication gets most of our attention. Some of the people we support do not use speech, and in our experience almost every serious problem we are called in to resolve began with nobody slowing down enough to listen. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased with it, and we would still rather be judged by what the people we support say about us than by an inspection.

More about the care at Thera South Midlands
Home Care at Thera South Midlands
Oxfordshire council is where an assessment and any funded hours would start, and the indicative South East rate for care at home is £29 to £35 an hour, a regional figure rather than this agency's charge. Thera South Midlands works across Oxfordshire and the surrounding area, and its stated starting point is that the people it supports are in charge of their own lives. It also says communication gets most of its attention, because some of the people it supports do not use speech. Ask how a package is costed, what the minimum commitment is, and how hours are reviewed. Ask who would hold the relationship if a regular worker left.
Older Person Care at Thera South Midlands
A rating of good is published for this service from an inspection in January 2020, but the current registration dates only from 1 October 2026 under the provider Thera Trust, so that rating may describe an earlier arrangement. Older people are one of the groups Thera South Midlands is registered to support in Oxford, and the practical help it lists includes personal care, cooking, health appointments, travel and dealing with the officialdom that can defeat anybody. It says the first conversation is about what somebody wants their week to look like. Ask how that conversation is recorded and who revisits it. Control over your own money and food, and a tenancy in your own name, are what this agency names as the point of its support for adults with a learning disability and for autistic people. Communication is where it says it puts most effort, including with people who do not use speech. Ask how a plan is written with the person, who commissions the hours, and how often reviews happen.
Physical Disability at Thera South Midlands
The correct way to help somebody move is specific to that individual, which is the point this agency makes about physical disability. Equipment, an accessible bathroom and a consistently applied technique matter more than goodwill. Ask who assesses moving and handling in Oxford, how the agreed approach is written down, and what is done to keep somebody doing whatever they still can.
