About OSJCT Moorside Place
We are a home care team based at Moorside Place in Kidlington, supporting people in their own homes across this part of Oxfordshire. Those we visit include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Supporting that range means we plan individually rather than running everybody through one routine. What helps an older person stay safely at home has little in common with what helps a young autistic adult manage their own flat, and a service that treats them alike will do neither properly. Practical help is much of what we do: personal care, medication, meals, shopping, laundry, keeping a household in order. The rest is harder to put on a care plan. Noticing that somebody is not themselves. Staying the last ten minutes rather than leaving early. Telling the office when something has changed. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we visit how we are doing, and we act on the small critical answers rather than the kind general ones.

- Inspectors visited on 20 November 2019 as part of a routine inspection.
Safe
Inspectors found people were kept safe by staff who understood how to make sure they were not abused. There was an alarm system so people could call for staff from their apartment or a communal area, which helped staff respond quickly. Staff administered medicines safely and kept people safe from the risk of infection.
Effective
Staff had been trained and understood how to work within the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and other legislation. Staff understood how each person communicated and responded using language they understood. Staff worked with the housing provider when people's needs changed.
Caring

People and staff described care being provided at times to suit the person, even if this was not the planned time. People were encouraged to stay independent and be involved in the community. Activities included hobbies, crafts and a dementia cafe run by a trained nurse funded by the provider.
