About SeeAbility Support Service
SeeAbility in Oxfordshire supports people in their own homes in Banbury and across the county. We work with older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Sight and hearing needs get particular attention from us, because they are so often overlooked when someone also has a learning disability. If a person cannot see well, a kitchen that gets rearranged or crockery that does not contrast with the table makes life needlessly harder. If hearing is poor, a busy room can leave somebody isolated in the middle of company. We train staff to approach, speak and assist in ways that work for the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using transport, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help we still look for the parts they can take on, because independence slips away quietly unless it is protected. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Predictability, lighting and noise all shape how good a day somebody has, so we treat those as part of the support. Please get in touch if you would like to talk through what we could offer in the Banbury area.
