Global Care Link provides care and support in people's own homes across the London borough of Newham. We visit older people, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Most households find us at a moment of change. A fall, a hospital stay, a diagnosis, or the gradual arrival of the point at which managing alone stops making sense. Our first job in those weeks is to reduce the pressure without taking the household over. We pick up what has genuinely become hard and deliberately leave alone what somebody still manages, because capability removed for convenience is very difficult to get back. In practice that means help with washing and dressing, medication prompted or administered, meals, moving safely about the flat, laundry, shopping, appointments and time to talk properly. Some households want one visit a week and others need four calls a day. For people living with dementia we hold to the same carers and the same times as far as the rota allows. Living in a busy part of London makes consistency harder and more important, so we keep rounds tight and local and we tell people who to expect. Language and culture often matter to whether care feels right, and we take those seriously. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission.
