That is where we put our effort. We work with older people who need help washing, dressing, taking medication or preparing a meal, and with people living with dementia, for whom the same carer at the same time is worth more than any amount of activity. We also support younger adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate so that nobody is spoken about rather than spoken to. Before we start we sit down properly with the person and whoever they want present, and we ask the questions that referral forms never cover. What do you still want to do yourself. What time does your medication really need to be taken. Who should we ring if something changes. Then we build the visits around those answers and keep the same faces going wherever the rota allows. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. Until we have one, we would ask people to judge us on how we answer the phone and how we turn up.
