We are the Caremark office covering Medway, providing home care to people in their own homes across the area. We support older people, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Our starting point is that a care visit should fit into somebody's life rather than interrupt it. That means asking what time a person actually wants to get up rather than what suits the rota, and understanding which tasks someone wants to keep doing for themselves even when it takes longer. Independence is easily worn away by well meant help and we try hard not to be the cause of that. For people living with dementia we keep our visits consistent, with the same carers wherever possible, because familiarity does more good than any technique we could apply. Where sight or hearing is poor we adapt our communication and check that aids are working. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we welcome direct questions from anyone weighing us up.
