For one person the most useful thing we do is a predictable weekly routine and staff who know exactly what helps when things get difficult. Plans here are agreed with the person and written plainly. They record what somebody wants to keep doing themselves as clearly as what they want help with. Where a person communicates in a particular way, whether through signs, symbols or their own habits of expression, our staff learn it before the first visit rather than working it out afterwards. We keep teams small around each person so nobody has to explain themselves from scratch every time, and we review arrangements regularly rather than letting them go stale.
