About Rutland House
Rutland House provides support at home for people in Loughborough and the surrounding part of Leicestershire. The people we visit include older people, many of them living with dementia, as well as younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Everything begins with a proper conversation in your own home about your routine, your preferences and where help would make the biggest difference. Visits can cover personal care and medication, cooking, shopping and housework, support to get out into the community or to work and college, or company for somebody who sees very few people in a week. Some people need one short call a day and others need several, or support overnight. Because the range of needs we cover is wide, we think carefully about matching carers to the people they visit, since the right fit makes more difference than anything written in a plan. Once it is working we protect it by keeping the same small team visiting, and where somebody communicates in ways other than speech we take the time needed to understand properly rather than assume. We treat it as the standard we are expected to hold rather than an achievement to display, and we keep asking the people we support whether we are doing what we promised.
