About MacIntyre LifeLong Learning
MacIntyre in Leicester provides support at home and in the community for adults with a learning disability or autism. Learning runs through everything we do, and not in a formal classroom sense. People keep learning throughout their lives if they are given the chance, and too often that chance quietly disappears once somebody is receiving care. So our support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. That might be cooking a meal from start to finish, managing money, getting somewhere independently, using technology, taking on a job or volunteering role, or simply being able to say what they want and be heard. We are careful about the line between supporting a person and taking over, because doing something for somebody is quicker and almost always the wrong choice. We pay close attention to how people communicate, which is not always through words, and we take the time needed to get it right rather than assuming. Plans are written with the person, reviewed honestly and changed when they stop fitting. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. That judgement came largely from what the people we support and their families told the inspectors, which is why it means something to us. We do not treat it as finished business. If you would like to talk about support, we are happy to meet and explain how we work.
