We provide care and support to people in their own homes across Lancaster and Morecambe and the surrounding part of Lancashire. The people we work with include older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Home care succeeds or fails on two things, and neither of them is a glossy brochure. The first is turning up when we said we would. The second is that the person coming through the door already knows the household and how things are done in it. We build our rotas around both, keeping the team for each person small and local. Everything starts with a visit and an unhurried conversation about what is genuinely difficult and what somebody wants to keep doing themselves. The plan comes from that, agreed with the person and with family or an advocate if they want them involved, and revisited as needs change. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, housework and laundry, shopping, getting out to appointments or somewhere sociable, and company. For autistic people and people with learning disabilities we give notice of any change well in advance and we learn how each person prefers to communicate.
