About Maplewood Independent Living
Maplewood Independent Living provides care and support to people in their own homes in Dartford and across Kent. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. The name says what we are trying to do. Support should make independent living possible rather than gradually replace it, so we try to provide exactly as much help as somebody needs and no more. Doing things for a person that they can still manage themselves takes something away from them, and it is easily done with the best of intentions. Everything starts with a visit and an unhurried conversation. What does the day look like now, what has become difficult, and what would the person rather keep doing for themselves. From that we agree who comes, when and what they do, with family or an advocate involved whenever the person wants them there. Visits cover personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping, getting to appointments, and company for people whose days have grown quiet. Where somebody has a physical disability we look closely at equipment, transfers and how the home is arranged. Where sight or hearing is affected we think about how we announce ourselves. Please give us a ring if you would like to talk about support in the Dartford area and we will arrange to come out.
