About The Doting Carers
The Doting Carers support people in their own homes in Letchworth Garden City and across this part of Hertfordshire. We work with older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and younger adults. A good deal of our work is less about personal care tasks and more about making an ordinary life workable. Running a household. Cooking, shopping and managing money. Getting to college, work or activities. Keeping up with family and friends. For many of the people we support, having somebody reliable who turns up and who knows them is what holds a week together. For older people we also provide the more familiar side of home care, helping with washing and dressing, medication, meals and company, as often or as little as is actually needed. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than around risk alone. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for the parts they can take on, because independence slips away quietly unless it is protected. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we plan rotas so that people see familiar carers rather than a stream of strangers.
