About Care By Us
We are Care By Us, a home care agency based in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. We support people in their own homes, working with older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability or a sensory impairment, and people affected by eating disorders or by alcohol and drug misuse. The first thing we do with anyone new is ask rather than offer. What does an ordinary day look like, what part of it has become difficult, and what would you rather go on doing yourself. That last answer is the one people are usually clearest about and it is the most useful, because support built around what somebody wants to keep tends to last while support built on assumptions gets resented. Where progress is not a straight line, and for several of the people we work with it is not, the most useful thing a carer can be is steady. Turn up as agreed. Do not treat a difficult week as a reason to withdraw. We work alongside GPs, community teams and clinical staff, and we hold onto continuity of carers wherever the rota allows. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating.
