About Helping Hands
Helping Hands Hereford supports people in their own homes in Hereford and the surrounding countryside. We work with older people and with younger adults, with people living with dementia, and with people who have physical disabilities. What we do depends entirely on what a household needs. For one person it is a call each morning to help with washing, dressing and medication and to get the day started. For another it is several visits, help with meals, shopping and laundry, and time spent simply in company, which for somebody living alone can matter as much as anything practical. For a family who have been managing on their own, it can be a few reliable hours a week that let them rest. Supporting somebody with dementia at home takes patience and consistency, so we keep the same carers going to the same households wherever we can, and we work with the routines and surroundings that already make sense to a person rather than trying to impose new ones. This is a rural county and we plan our rounds accordingly, with travelling time built in so that carers are not cutting visits short. If we cannot properly cover a particular time, we say so at the outset rather than letting somebody down later. If you are arranging care at home in or around Hereford, please contact us and we will come out and talk it through.
