About Elgar Care
Elgar Care supports people in their own homes in Hereford and across the county. We work with older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Covering a largely rural county shapes how we work. Distances are real and so is isolation, and for some of the people we visit we are the main face they see in a day. We build travel time into rotas properly so that visits are not clipped short, and we keep the same carers going to the same households wherever we can. Our visits cover personal care, support with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. For younger adults and for people with a learning disability, the work is often less about personal care and more about making an ordinary week workable, from getting to college or work to running a household. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than around risk alone. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for the parts they can take on, because independence slips away quietly unless it is protected. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
