What we do is shaped around the household rather than around our rota. For many people the morning is what matters most, help to get up, washed and dressed comfortably, breakfast made and medication taken properly. For others the difficulty is the evening, or the meals, or the shopping and laundry, or a longer visit so a family carer can get out for a few hours. We plan our rounds so that the same carers go to the same homes. Familiar staff know where things are kept and what normal looks like for that person, which is how they notice quickly when somebody is eating less, sleeping badly or becoming unsteady. Where sight or hearing has changed we pay attention to the practical adjustments that keep a person connected rather than cut off. We agree the plan with the person and whoever they want involved, write it in plain language and change it when things change. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We would rather say so openly, and we are glad to explain how we recruit, train and supervise our staff before you decide anything.
