About Ravenscroft House
Ravenscroft House provides support to adults with a learning disability and to autistic adults living in their own homes in and around Southampton. Supporting someone in their own home changes the balance of the relationship, and it should. It is their place. They decide who comes in, what happens there and how the day runs. Our role is to provide the support that makes independent living work, whether that is help with personal care, managing money and appointments, cooking, keeping the house going, staying safe, or having somebody alongside for things that would otherwise be out of reach. We take communication seriously as the foundation of everything else. We learn how each person tells us what they want, in whatever form that takes, and we make sure everyone on the team can understand it. Support that is decided for somebody rather than with them rarely works and often makes things worse. We also pay attention to the environment. Where somebody finds noise, light, crowds or unpredictability difficult, we change what we can rather than expecting the person to tolerate it, and we plan ahead so that necessary changes are not sprung on anyone. Choice and control are the point. Taking sensible risks is part of an ordinary adult life, and our job is to make things possible, not to remove every difficulty. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you or someone in your family is looking at supported living in Southampton, please get in touch.
