About Moore Care and Support
We support people in their own homes in Southampton and the surrounding area. Those we work with include adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, younger adults, people living with eating disorders, and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use. Attitude matters as much as skill in this work. Several of the people we support have had experiences of being judged rather than helped, and a carer who arrives with opinions about how somebody came to need support is of no use to them at all. Somebody living with an eating disorder does not need a carer with views about food. We recruit and train with that firmly in mind, and we supervise properly rather than hoping for the best. We begin with what the person wants their life to look like rather than with a list of tasks. Plans are agreed rather than issued, and we revisit them when circumstances shift, which they often do. Progress is uneven and does not follow a timetable, so we try to be steady rather than to push. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people we support what we should be doing differently.
