About Good Oaks and Winchester
We are Good Oaks Southampton and Winchester, a home care agency supporting people in their own homes across Hampshire. We work with older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability or a sensory impairment. Home care only works when it is built around the person rather than around our convenience, so we start by asking what a normal day looks like and where it has become difficult. The visits follow from that. Circumstances change, sometimes gradually and sometimes suddenly, so we review the arrangement instead of letting a plan agreed months ago run on past its usefulness. Continuity is the part we work hardest at. Sending the same small group of carers to the same household is harder to roster than people imagine and it improves care more than anything else, particularly for someone with dementia or anyone who takes time to trust a new face. We keep families informed and speak up early when we notice a change, because a concern raised in good time is usually a small problem. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet received an overall rating.
