About SeeAbility - Support Service
We are the SeeAbility support team in Aldershot, working with people in their own homes and communities across Hampshire. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, older people, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. A good deal of our work concerns people who live with both a learning disability and sight loss, a combination that is often badly understood. It means small habits carry an enormous amount of weight. Saying who you are as you come in rather than assuming you are recognised. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Describing what is about to happen before it happens. Checking that glasses are clean and hearing aids actually working. We build those into the ordinary day rather than treating them as extra care. Beyond that, we take the word support seriously and try not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties, and the rota comes after that. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same small team stays around a person, changes get proper notice, and we hold to what we agreed even when it is inconvenient for us. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection.
