Nearly everyone who contacts us wants to carry on living where they are. Our job is to make that practical rather than to take over. Depending on the person that might be one call each morning to help with washing and dressing, several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or support that is less about physical tasks and more about keeping ordinary life on track. The first conversation is where the work really starts. We want to know how the day usually runs, what has become hard, and what the person would rather keep doing for themselves. People are often very specific about that, and respecting it is as much the job as anything we take on. Continuity is where we put our effort. For people living with dementia, for autistic adults and for people managing poor mental health, a familiar carer and a predictable visit matter more than anything else we could arrange.
