About Helping Hands
Helping Hands Stroud provides care and support to people in their own homes in Stroud and the surrounding parts of Gloucestershire. We support older people, including many living with dementia, adults with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who want support to manage day to day life. Most people would far rather stay where they are, with their own things around them and their own routines intact. Our job is to make that workable for as long as it sensibly can be, and to be honest with families when circumstances are changing. We start by asking what is genuinely difficult and what somebody still manages perfectly well on their own, then agree the visits from there. They might cover help with washing and dressing, prompting and support with medication, preparing meals and drinks, moving safely around the home, laundry, shopping, and getting to appointments or out into the town. For some people the most valuable part of the week is simply that a familiar person comes, notices how they are and has time to talk. Dementia support is a substantial part of our work. That means arriving calmly, keeping to routines that make sense to the person, never rushing anybody, and noticing the small shifts that tell you something has changed. We agree timings and keep to them, and we aim to send the same small team to each household. Plans are reviewed honestly rather than left to drift. If you would like to talk about support in the Stroud area, please get in touch.
