About SeeAbility Support Service
SeeAbility supports people across Buckinghamshire in their own homes and in the community. Much of our work is with people who have sight loss alongside other needs, including adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with mental ill health. Sight loss is too often treated as a secondary matter when somebody has other support needs, and we think that is exactly the wrong way round. How a person takes in information, finds their way about and stays in control of their own day depends on getting it right. So we look at the practical detail carefully: how a home is arranged, what someone can use and read, what equipment genuinely helps and how staff should describe things rather than assume. Support is agreed with the person in a form they can actually use, and we take the time to learn how somebody communicates before we make decisions about them. We work alongside families, health teams and social workers so nobody has to keep repeating their story. We start from what a person already does well and build support around the rest, whether that is getting out to work or an activity, keeping a household running, or managing health appointments. Please contact us if you would like to talk through what support could look like for you or someone in your family.
