About Tikvah Woodpeckers
Tikvah Woodpeckers is a residential care home in Crowthorne supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and those with visual or hearing impairments. We provide permanent places and planned respite stays. We run a house where people live rather than a unit where people are placed. Residents have their own rooms, a genuine say in how the household works and support that has been planned with them instead of written about them. Staff are here to help people do things for themselves wherever that is possible, and we look to build skills and confidence rather than quietly taking tasks over. Getting the environment right is central to our work. Noise, lighting, predictability and knowing what happens next often decide whether someone is settled or permanently braced. Where a resident has a sensory impairment we adapt communication and surroundings rather than expecting them to adjust to us, and details such as contrast, layout and background noise make a far bigger difference than people expect. For residents with physical disabilities we plan and equip so that mobility limits do not narrow someone's world, and getting out regularly is part of that. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and ask us direct questions about how we work.
