About Newtown (65a)
We are a residential care home in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Those living here include older people and adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We are home to younger adults as well as older ones, and we offer respite stays. Being small is the most important thing about us. It means the people who live here are genuinely known rather than nominally known, that staff notice a change in somebody's mood without needing it reported, and that the household can run around the people in it rather than the other way round. A small home cannot offer the range of facilities a large one can, and we would say honestly that for some people a larger setting suits better. What we can offer is being properly known. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the place runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them. We are careful about routine and about explaining change in good time, because for several of the people here that is what makes a day manageable. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. If you visit and something looks wrong to you, please say so, because fresh eyes are useful to us.
