About Fairmead House
Fairmead House is a residential care home in Kendal. We support a wide range of adults: older people and younger adults, people with a learning disability, autistic people, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available alongside our permanent places. Supporting such a mixed group well means paying close attention to the individual rather than running the house to one rigid pattern. What a good week looks like for a younger resident with a learning disability is not what it looks like for an older resident who now wants peace and familiar company. We take time at the outset to understand each person, we write their support plan around that understanding, and we revise it as people change. The practical support covers personal care, medication, meals, mobility and continence, given at whatever level each person needs, and we bring in GPs, district nurses, community mental health teams and other specialists promptly. Where somebody communicates differently, we learn their way of doing it and take what they tell us seriously. We also care about what happens beyond the house. Kendal and the surrounding countryside offer plenty, and we support people to get out, to keep up with family and friends, and to pursue their own interests rather than a programme designed for everybody. Families, social workers and health professionals are welcome to contact us. If you are considering Fairmead House, please arrange to visit and see how the place actually feels.
