About The Paddocks
The Paddocks is a residential care home in Crawley supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, and we also offer respite stays. We are a small home and we work at the pace of the people who live here. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and everyone has a genuine say in how the house runs, from what is cooked to how the week is planned. Staff support people to do things rather than doing things for them, which takes longer and is the entire point. Communication comes first in our work. Some of the people here use speech, some use signs, symbols or pictures, and some show us what they need through behaviour that takes time and attention to understand. We learn each person's way of telling us and we keep adjusting as it changes. Routine and predictability matter a great deal in this house. We plan ahead, we give proper notice before anything changes, and we think carefully about sensory things like noise, light and busyness, which can make the difference between a good day and an overwhelming one. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying a change of scene in a calm setting. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. Please contact us if you would like to visit. People are welcome to come more than once.
