About The Acorns
The Acorns is a residential care home in Crawley, West Sussex, supporting adults with a learning disability, adults who are autistic and people with a physical disability. We work with younger adults and we also offer respite stays. Support here is planned around individuals rather than around a house routine. We take time to learn how each person communicates, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and how they like things done. The week belongs to the person, whether that means a course, a job, volunteering, regular time with family or a settled routine that nobody disturbs. People choose their own food, keep their own belongings and habits, and have a genuine say in how the house is run. Practical help with mobility and personal care is given discreetly and in the way the person prefers, and we check that we have it right rather than assuming. When somebody becomes distressed, we treat it as information rather than as behaviour to be controlled. There is nearly always a reason, and knowing the person well is what allows us to find it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to look round, or to talk about a permanent place or a respite stay, please get in touch and we will arrange a time that suits you.
