Safe
Inspectors found that people were safe at Whitehaven. People told inspectors they felt safe and well cared for. People were protected from the risk of abuse, and other risks were reduced. People received their medicines when they needed them, the home was clean and tidy, and there were enough staff to keep people safe.
Effective
Inspectors found that people were supported to have as much choice and control as possible. Staff supported people in the least restrictive way possible. Staff were well trained, supervised and supported. People said they liked the food and had enough to eat and drink. Their health needs were well supported, and the building was suitable for their needs.
Caring
Inspectors found that staff treated people with kindness and compassion. People told inspectors they liked the staff. People were supported to have a voice and make decisions about their own care. Staff helped people to be as independent as they could be and respected their privacy.
Responsive
Inspectors found that Whitehaven provided a person-centred service and that people enjoyed a range of activities. Staff who knew people well supported their communication needs. People knew how to complain. Staff were trained to support people at the end of their lives.
Well-led
Inspectors found that the registered manager was a visible presence and provided leadership to the service. Quality checks had been effective in finding shortfalls and putting them right through action plans. People and staff were involved in running the service, and people's information was being shared safely.

People living at the home told inspectors they felt safe and well cared for. They also said they liked the food and liked the staff.
