About Summon Bonum
Summon Bonum is a residential care home in Torquay, and the people who live here are a more varied group than many homes take on. Older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Adults living with mental ill health. People with physical disabilities. Younger adults. We also offer respite stays, planned or at short notice. Running a house with that mix only works if you genuinely treat people as individuals, and that is what we try to do. Support is agreed with the person, written in plain terms they recognise, and revisited as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly need stability, someone to talk to, and a household that holds steady when a difficult week comes along. For autistic people, predictability is not a preference but a need, so we explain changes in advance, keep staffing consistent where we can, and pay attention to noise, light and the small things that make a room bearable or not. For older residents the priorities are usually privacy, dignity in personal care, decent food and company that is available rather than imposed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a move here, for themselves or for a relative, is welcome to visit and take their time over the decision.
