About Lorna House
Lorna House is a residential care home in Torquay for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our everyday work is the ordinary business of a household run well. Help with washing, dressing and moving about at the person's own pace and as privately as possible. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here with real choice. Rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and pictures. Where somebody has a physical disability we think about equipment, layout and the exact moment help is needed. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute what was found. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the care actually being given rather than the care described on paper. That work continues and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions honestly than leave a family to find it out later. Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit, see how things are now, and ask us anything at all.
