About The Homesteads

The Homesteads is a residential care home in Stanford Le Hope, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need a break or whose families do. Our starting point is that this is somebody's home, not a placement. People choose how their rooms look, have a hand in the shopping and the meals, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody wants to cook, we cook alongside them rather than doing it for them. Where somebody wants work or a course or a club, that is the purpose of our support rather than a pleasant addition to it. Predictability matters a great deal here. For many of those living with us, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day workable rather than difficult. So we plan ahead, explain changes early, and do not rearrange things casually because it suits a rota. Respite guests are welcomed properly. We ask in advance how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it gradually and guesswork is unfair on everybody. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change about the place.
