About Cedar House
Cedar House is a residential care home in Stanford le Hope supporting older people, including many living with dementia, and we welcome respite guests. We run the home as a household rather than a facility. People get up when they are ready, eat what they want and spend the day as they choose, in company or quietly on their own. Staff take the trouble to learn residents' histories, their families and working lives and the things they still care about, because good care depends on knowing a person rather than a list of needs. Dementia care is a large part of what we do. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can manage, and we follow the person rather than correcting them, since correcting somebody rarely helps and often upsets them. When a resident is unsettled we look for the reason behind it, whether that is pain, noise, tiredness, hunger or a need that has not been understood. Relatives are usually the best guide to what has always worked, and we ask them. Respite stays give family carers a proper break, and the person staying receives exactly what a permanent resident receives. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to look round, please get in touch and come and see us on an ordinary day.
