About Martham House
Martham House is a residential care home in Redhill, Surrey, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. This is a home rather than a placement, and the household is built around the people who live in it instead of the other way round. Support here is individual and practical. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, money and appointments, and it covers the things that make a week worth having: seeing people, going out, keeping up interests, being useful, having plans of your own. We communicate in the way that suits each person, and we give people the time to do things themselves rather than stepping in for the sake of speed. Where somebody wants more independence, support is planned to draw back steadily as their confidence grows, and we treat that as a success rather than a loss. Most of the people we support are younger adults, and we take care not to assume that a shared diagnosis means shared wishes. Respite stays are available too, which give a family carer a real break and let somebody see how the house feels first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased about it and clear that it reflects what was seen at one point rather than a permanent entitlement. Please visit and meet the people who live here.
