About Broadwater Lodge
We are Broadwater Lodge, a residential care home in Godalming. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. Our most recent CQC overall rating is outstanding. We are glad of it, though the measure we care about more is whether the people who live here are having days worth having. With that range of people under one roof, a single routine would suit nobody, so we do not run one. People get up when they are ready, eat what appeals to them and spend their days as they choose. What stays constant is that staff know the people here well enough to notice when somebody is quieter, more tired or less themselves than usual. For residents living with dementia, we work with their history rather than against their confusion. Support plans are written with the person and reviewed when circumstances change, and where somebody wants to take on more for themselves we build it up at their pace. We work closely with families, social workers, GPs and community teams, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Please get in touch to arrange a look round.

More about the care at Broadwater Lodge
Respite Care at Broadwater Lodge
Short breaks at Broadwater Lodge, which was rated outstanding by the CQC in November 2019, can give a family carer time to rest or cover a hospital stay. Ring well ahead, as respite rooms in Surrey book up quickly, and expect a minimum stay of one or two weeks. Pack clothing, toiletries, medication in its original packaging and a list of routines. Many families use respite as a trial before considering a permanent move.
Dementia Care at Broadwater Lodge
Good dementia care leans on familiar daily rhythms, staff who understand how memory loss and communication changes affect behaviour, and a layout that feels calm, secure and easy to navigate. Broadwater Lodge is registered to provide dementia care, so it is reasonable to ask how new residents are settled in, how life history and preferences are captured, and how the team responds when someone becomes distressed or restless. Ask specifically about how they reduce the risk of a resident walking out unnoticed, how they manage sundowning in the late afternoon, and how care plans change as dementia progresses towards needing more support with eating, mobility or continence. Families should also ask how they are kept informed after falls, infections or GP reviews, and whether end of life wishes are discussed early.
Residential Care at Broadwater Lodge
At Broadwater Lodge in Godalming, residential care means a permanent home with meals, laundry, housekeeping, personal care and social activities included, but without the on site registered nurses that a nursing home provides. Residents typically need help with daily living rather than ongoing clinical treatment, and community health services such as GPs and district nurses visit as needed. The home holds a CQC overall rating of outstanding from its November 2019 inspection, which is worth reading alongside a visit. Ask how care plans are reviewed, what a typical day looks like, and how the home would respond if a resident's health needs increased over time. Confirm what the weekly fee includes, since hairdressing, chiropody and outings are often charged separately across Surrey homes.
Older Person Care at Broadwater Lodge
Support for older people in a residential setting like Broadwater Lodge usually covers help with washing and dressing in the morning, prompts or administration of prescribed medication, assistance at mealtimes, and simple companionship through the day. Families looking at this home should ask how personal care routines are agreed with each resident, whether preferred bath or shower times can be honoured, and how continence needs are managed discreetly. It is worth asking how many staff are awake overnight, how call bells are answered, and how quickly a GP or district nurse is contacted if someone becomes unwell. Weekly fees in the South East typically range from around £1100 to £1450, while Surrey County Council usually funds placements closer to £800 to £950, so clarify early whether any top up would apply.
Mental Health at Broadwater Lodge
Adults living with long term mental health conditions often do best where the environment is predictable, expectations are clear, and dignity is protected during harder periods. Broadwater Lodge is registered to support people in this group, so ask what experience staff have with conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and how medication is monitored. Check how the home links with community mental health teams and GPs, and what happens on evenings or weekends if someone becomes unwell or in crisis.
Younger Adults at Broadwater Lodge
Adults under 65 in a care home need a lifestyle that reflects their age, including access to work, education, hobbies, technology and their own social circle, rather than defaulting to activities pitched at much older residents. Broadwater Lodge is registered to support younger adults, so ask how they help someone maintain friendships, use the local Godalming area and pursue personal interests. Ask too whether other residents of a similar age currently live there.
Learning Disability and Autism at Broadwater Lodge
Adults with a learning disability or autism benefit from consistent routines, clear communication and support that builds on what they can already do, alongside attention to sensory sensitivities around noise, light and unfamiliar people. Placements are usually commissioned by Surrey County Council or the NHS with regular reviews of outcomes and cost.
Physical Disability at Broadwater Lodge
Accessibility is central for adults with a physical disability, covering step free routes, wide doorways, accessible bathrooms and space to move safely with a wheelchair or walking aid. Broadwater Lodge is registered to support people with physical disabilities, so it is worth asking about hoists, profiling beds, wet rooms and whether rooms can be adapted to individual needs. Ask how personal care is delivered in a way that preserves independence, and how physiotherapy or occupational therapy input is arranged through the NHS.
