About Maynell House
Maynell House is a residential care home in Felixstowe in Suffolk. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and we offer respite stays for people needing care for a short spell or whose usual carer needs a break. Felixstowe suits us. The sea is close, the front is a proper walk, and many of the people living here have known this part of Suffolk all their lives, which means the community keeps coming through the door. We encourage that, and visitors are welcome at whatever hour works for them rather than whatever suits our rota. Moving into a care home is a considerable step, and the first weeks count for more than any account of the building. We use them to learn about the person rather than to settle them into our routine. What they did for a living. What they will not be persuaded to eat. What time breakfast has always happened. Whether they would rather have company or the door shut and the radio on. The rest of the day belongs to the people living it. We take the practical things seriously too: food worth looking forward to, medication handled carefully, quick attention when somebody is unwell, and plain conversations with families when things change. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and relatives what needs our attention.
