About The Manor Cottage

The Manor Cottage is a small residential care home in Bristol, on the South Gloucestershire side of the city. We look after older people who need help with daily life but not nursing care, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and also wary, because a rating describes a few days of scrutiny and what matters is the other three hundred and sixty. So we treat it as a standard to keep rather than a thing to advertise. What we think we get right is mostly unglamorous. We are small, so the staff know everybody properly rather than approximately, and they tend to stay. Nobody is hurried through a wash or a meal. Food is hot, recognisable and actually wanted. A person's bedroom looks like their own room, with their own things in it. We ask families for the detail no assessment captures, and then we use it. We want relatives in the building often rather than confined to visiting hours, and we would rather be told promptly when we have got something wrong, because small problems are much cheaper to fix early. Come and see us on an ordinary day, unannounced if you prefer.
