About Kendall House
Kendall House near Bristol is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, most of them younger adults, and we also care for people living with dementia. Respite stays are part of what we do. Because people tend to live here for years, we run the house as their household rather than as a setting they have been placed in. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do rather than around our convenience. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed, and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right without being told. For anybody who finds change difficult, that consistency is the ground everything else stands on. Communication takes real effort and deserves it. Some people here use speech, others use signs, symbols, objects or behaviour we have to learn to read, and we treat that learning as part of the job and check what we think we have understood. Where somebody is living with dementia as well, knowing their history well is what lets us offer comfort when words become harder. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
